Well, after quite some years at the profweekday.com domain, I've decided its time for a fresh start. So I'm moving to pastures new, where I won't be tied down to theme, form or implied pseudoscience.
From now on, you'll be able to find me at http://www.theothertomelliott.com
Hope to see you there real soon!

Now that is wonderful, a guy so proud of his life's work that he requested that it be his eternal resting place. We don't see enough of that, this throwaway culture of ours forces all glory to be fleeting, so we cast aside our past accomplishments in pursuit of the next, never stopping to smell the roses.

Super Fun Stabby Time
Posted May 18th, 2008 by Prof. WeekdayHoly Crap! Canadian Pierces Lover's Heart In Botched Sex Game
Apparently they were engaging in "rough sex", he asked her to carve a heart in his chest and she got carried away. I always thought the dagger through the hard came at the end of a relationship, if at all, not mid-coital. Makes me wonder what some other people are into. There must be some poor souls out there who are only sexually excited when playing Russian Roulette or ingesting cyanide.
"Before we start, there's something I should tell you."
"What's that?"
"I've never done this before."
"That's kind of a given, taking into account your still being alive."
How Did I Not Hear About This Movie?!?!
Posted May 17th, 2008 by Prof. WeekdayTropic Thunder
Jack Black taking the piss out of Eddie Murphy? Steve Coogan as a pretentious director (that sounds familiar)? Robert Downey Jr. putting his iron long johns aside and blacking up? Ben Stiller lamenting doing a bad movie? Nick Nolte, being, well, Nick Nolte? I'm totally there!
Shocking that the first I heard about this was on Twitter.
And the word of the day is...
Posted May 1st, 2008 by Prof. WeekdayA Marvel of Construction
Posted April 24th, 2008 by Prof. WeekdayThe Tate Modern is undergoing something of a facelift over the next few years, specifically erecting the weirdest construction in all of Christendom smack bang in front of it.
This hasn't deterred work on the existing building, however. Recently, a number of skilled workers have been shipped in every day to work on replacing the panels surrounding the very top of its impressive chimney (Wikipedia tells me this bit is called a "Swiss Light", apparently). Such an important and historic structure needs special care and attention, and only the best technology the human mind can create.
But to save some cash, they just lashed a bunch of ladders to the side.

Just goes to prove that there are indeed some people who have no natural fear of heights, especially if you take into account that before starting to climb they're already on the roof of a five-storey building.

I'd quite like to see Fathers for Justice have a go at getting up there.
Photos from Today's Greenpeace Protest
Posted April 21st, 2008 by Prof. WeekdaySome photos from today's Greenpeace protest at the Unilever building. Could see them from the office, so I figured I might as well go take some pictures. Shame my battery was running low.

I'm a little curious as to who put the clamp on the billboard, though.
Seemed a pretty lighthearted affair, police were amused, tourists were bemused, and the protestors got their point across without annoying anyone. Was a refreshing change after the torch relay.
A Creature of Habit
Posted April 14th, 2008 by Prof. WeekdayI think everyone has moments every now and then, where they do something monumentally stupid in a very public place. We know it happens, so we shouldn't feel embarrassed, we should be happy to laugh at our own momentary foolishness, whilst everyone else was glad that this time, it wasn't them.
An Ode To William McGonagall
Posted October 11th, 2007 by Prof. WeekdayThe poems of William McGonagall were many
But quality words there simply weren't any
Of strict rhyme schemes he was a true fan
Just a pity that read aloud none of his poems ever actually managed to scan
William Topaz McGonagall, 105 years dead and somehow still in print.
