A Marvel of Construction

The Tate Modern is undergoing something of a facelift over the next few years, specifically erecting the weirdest construction in all of Christendom smack bang in front of it.

This hasn't deterred work on the existing building, however. Recently, a number of skilled workers have been shipped in every day to work on replacing the panels surrounding the very top of its impressive chimney (Wikipedia tells me this bit is called a "Swiss Light", apparently). Such an important and historic structure needs special care and attention, and only the best technology the human mind can create.

But to save some cash, they just lashed a bunch of ladders to the side.

Just goes to prove that there are indeed some people who have no natural fear of heights, especially if you take into account that before starting to climb they're already on the roof of a five-storey building.

I'd quite like to see Fathers for Justice have a go at getting up there.

Photos from Today's Greenpeace Protest

Some photos from today's Greenpeace protest at the Unilever building. Could see them from the office, so I figured I might as well go take some pictures. Shame my battery was running low.

I'm a little curious as to who put the clamp on the billboard, though.

Seemed a pretty lighthearted affair, police were amused, tourists were bemused, and the protestors got their point across without annoying anyone. Was a refreshing change after the torch relay.

A Creature of Habit

I think everyone has moments every now and then, where they do something monumentally stupid in a very public place. We know it happens, so we shouldn't feel embarrassed, we should be happy to laugh at our own momentary foolishness, whilst everyone else was glad that this time, it wasn't them.

An Ode To William McGonagall

The poems of William McGonagall were many
But quality words there simply weren't any
Of strict rhyme schemes he was a true fan
Just a pity that read aloud none of his poems ever actually managed to scan

William Topaz McGonagall, 105 years dead and somehow still in print.

A Journey in Meaning

Was listening to Any Way You Want It on the way home today, and I was struck with a thought: What the hell is this about?

After much delibertation, I have formulated a theory. The song is a heartwarming tale of a man and the girl he loved, who worked the late shift at the local Burger King. My reasons?

She said 'any way you want it, that's the way you need it'

Which is vaguely reminiscent of the BK slogan of days gone by: "You got it!" Whilst her working practices are given away in the lines

All night, all night etc.

Her enormously extended Hold on must have something to do with waiting for food to be microwaved. The rest is just generic relationship crap.

I'm telling ya, its about shagging in a fast food restaurant. Come on, you believe me, don't you?

Parties: The Right Time to Leave

You should leave when:

  1. You begin remarking to yourself that you drank more than you intended
  2. You start consuming substances you swore you wouldn't touch again
  3. You need to wipe the salt off a Margarita glass lest you vomit
  4. A fellow partygoer claims to have a lot of respect for you
  5. The room starts spinning
  6. The hostess asks if you're ok
  7. Maybe it wasn't the hostess
  8. You stand up and immediately fall against a brick wall

I ignored the first seven.

Less Busy Now

Just got out of an extremely busy time. A time when amongst, work, tour and many other distractions, I completely failed to write anything on this blog.

But now I have returned, rested and fresh, with a new outlook on life. The time is I should say something profound, something meaningful, something inspired...

Ah, to hell with it.
